The entrance to your next adventure at Beaver Creek Valley State Park
On a recent trip through Southeastern Minnesota, I stopped at Beaver Creek Valley State Park, which I did not remembered being in! Now for someone who grew up camping in Minnesota State Parks, I would have thought I would have been in this one especially since it is in my part of the state! I guess one could say that when one lives in a certain area, they do not explore all there is to see right around home. Moral to the story, explore the area that you call home!
Beaver Creek Valley State Park is located in the driftless section of Minnesota. None of the area around this section of Minnesota, southwestern Wisconsin, northeastern Iowa, and parts of Illinois was glaciated in the last round of glaciation. When the waters melted, large amounts of water carved deep cliffs in the rock layers leaving behind what we see today in bluff country!
This state park, located outside of Caledonia, Minnesota, on County #1 is known for its clear streams fed by the Big Spring. Its streams are home to brown and native brook trout. In spring, wildflowers blanket the woodland hills and valleys attracting migratory songbirds like the rare Acadian flycatcher, Cerulean warbler, and Louisiana waterthrush. Hikers can meander on a trail along the stream through the maple-basswood and oak forest while campers are lulled to sleep by the murmuring stream.
